Please Log inFrom the airport
If you are coming directly from the airport, we will have a spot in the church for you to change and store your baggage during the ceremony. If you would like to do this, please let us know at least 1 week before the wedding.
To do this, we'd recommend taking the Link Light rail from the airport to the Capitol Hill station. From there you can walk (its about 20 mins, mostly uphill), take a bus (look for #8 or #10), or take a Lyft/Uber.
From Downtown
If you have a car, the church is easy to drive too. Use Google Maps to find your way and see our Parking Info section.
If you want to take public transit, you can take the #12 (a bus) all the way from Downtown to the church. Or you can take the light rail to the Capitol Hill Station and walk ~20 mins to the church. Heads up, its an uphill walk.
We understand public transit might not be an appealing option for those who are all dressed up. We would suggest taking a Lyft/Uber.
If you want to try the Car Sharing apps (and arrive in style in a BMW), this would be a great option. The church has a lot of street parking for you to use and the drive from downtown to the church isn't too bad.
Please see the reception event info for more details about transportation from the church to Salty's.
St. Joseph has a parking lot that is able to meet all of our parking needs. The parking lot is accessible from 19th Ave E near the corner of Aloha and 19th. There is also street parking all around St. Joseph. If you are planning on leaving your car after the ceremony, we ask that you street park. East of 19th Ave or north of Aloha are your best bets as those side roads have unrestricted parking.
A couple special tips for driving in this area. A lot of roads will appear to be one way but are actually two way streets that can only fit one car. If you see a car coming towards you, the first person to find a spot to pull off to does and lets the other person past. Also, people parallel park with their car facing the wrong way all the time. Feel free to do it!
Dressy Casual
Gentlemen
A button down and slacks is fine, though we'd suggest a coat as well as the temperature will drop in the evening and you or your partner may want some extra warmth.
Ladies
A cocktail dress or dressy skirt and top are perfect. We'll think you're beautiful no matter what you wear. You will want a sweater or jacket for later in the evening.
Oh no! We arrived early, what do we do?
No worries! There are lots of places nearby to checkout. If you are hungry, you have a lots of options. Macrina Bakery is right across the street and offers a great lunch menu as well as some tasty, gluten filled, sweets. Just down the street is Rocket Taco, which has delicious tacos. Hello Robin is also down the street and has the best freshly baked cookies. If you have kids and need a place to feed lots of mouths, check out Zeek's Pizza which is also just down the road. If you aren't hungry, we always love to go walk around 18th, and 17th to look at houses we can't afford. Or head up to Volunteer Park on 15th.
Oh no! We are totally going to be late, what do we do?
Being late to a catholic mass is a great tradition that has been happening for millennia. Way to keep the tradition alive! The trick to arriving late to a Catholic mass is to sneak in one of the side doors and walk down a side aisle. The side door at St. Joseph's is just to the right when coming up the stairs from the parking lot.
I've never been to a Catholic mass before. What do I do?
No worries, the priest will walk you through all the steps that needs to happen. Liz and Matt will be doing most of the work. When in doubt, follow the crowd. Look to Matt's parents, they should have all the standing and sitting nailed. There will be singing as well. We'd prefer if you sing, it sounds better that way, but that's up to you. If you need some encouragement, Canterbury Ale House on 15th might provide some courage.
Where do we sit?
There will not be a Matt side and a Liz side (we prefer the height to be evenly distributed across the crowd). Please come and sit up close, as we will not fill up the entire church. We don't want the wedding to look like daily mass.
Where are the bathrooms?
Ask the ushers.
There will be a charter bus to bring people from the church to Salty's. The bus will leave the church around 4:30pm.
If you want to drive from the church to Salty's, fair warning, you will be driving through rush hour traffic. Plus, there is a Mariners game, and you'll be driving right past the stadium. It won't be horrible, but there will be some sitting in traffic. We wouldn't do it.
If you want more of a Seattle experience, there is a ferry you can take! It offers beautiful views on Puget Sound, Mt. Rainer, and the Olympic Mountains. You can take the #12 bus from the church to the ferry or take a Lyft/Uber. Unfortunately, there is no good parking near the ferry. The ferry drops off a 5 min walk from Salty's. You can find more info here. If we were attending the wedding, we'd do this. The photo opportunities will be on point.
The party's come to a close and its time to go home. If you are drinking, please take a Lyft/Uber home! We will have Lyft promo codes available (courtesy of the best man) which should cover most if not all of your trip. Look for the promo code near the exit as you leave the venue.
There should be plenty of Lyfts around as the nightlife on Alki is bumpin. However, you might have a long wait if you all requests Lyfts at 11.
If you are a little more sober, think about taking the Water Taxi across the sound. From there you may be able to walk to your hotel, or get a cheaper Lyft/Uber ride. The last Water Taxi leaves (promptly) at 11pm so you might want to duck out of the reception 10 mins early. We will not be offended.
Note: There will NOT be a bus back from Salty's to the church. Please use Lyft/Uber or the ferry!
Liz and Matt will be spending part of their Saturday hanging out at Madrona Park.
If you already have fun activities planned for Saturday, please go do them! This is (normally) the best time of year to do things in and around Seattle. Please enjoy yourself on your trip.
If you don't have plans or would like to spend some more time with us, please join us at the park for a bit! We will have light snacks, a couple recovery drinks, and a yard game or two to play. You can also go swimming here and jump off the floating dock.
Look for Liz and Matt (and others) near a group of 4 picnic tables near the shelter and under some pine trees.
There is a large parking lot just south of Mardrona park on the lake side of Lake Washington Blvd. It's free to park.
If that is full, Madrona Drive, just north of Mardona Park has lots of street parking.
If that is also full you can try perusing other streets for street parking. I would not be too concerned about finding a parking spot but if you don't want to worry about it checkout our transportation section.
If you are planning on driving, please see our parking info section. This section provides details of other methods of transportation.
In terms of public transit, the 2 is your best bet for getting down to Madrona Park. From Westlake (the light rail stop) you can take the 2 to get to the park. It's about a 40 minute drive. Since its a Saturday the buses will not be running as often. Please use Google Maps to plan out your trip.
If you are closer to Madrona Park, this would be a great time to try renting the Uber Jump bikes are biking to the park. Use Google Maps Biking directions to know which streets to bike on and the Uber App on your phone to find and reserve the bike.
You can also use Lyft or Uber to get here as well.
